Bill joined Youth Direct in 2003 although he served in a leadership role starting in 2001. Bill was named "VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR" by the Texas Youth Commission in 2003 for his selfless service. He has visited TYC facilities once a week alternating between Crockett State School and Mart for over one year, often driving up to 400 miles roundtrip. Bill began as a counselor working with youth in the 1970s and discovered he worked well with "troubled" youth because of a gift of patience. His work with incarcerated youth started in Brazoria County, Texas in 1999. Because of his compassion for these youth he has developed relationships with juvenile judges, probation officers, and case workers and attends court to provide extra support. He also works with families and / or single parents to provide encouragement. Bill
identifies TYC institutions for Youth Direct in Texas, maintains communication
with administrators and chaplains, and assists volunteers. He also served as a
counselor for Camp Direct. Bill is well known in Texas and a key staff member
of Youth Direct Ministries. | ||||
